A Short History of Sports Photography

May 20th, 2012 by admin No comments »

The history of sports photography is tightly related to the trends of sport gaining popularity throughout human history. The technology of photography from the early 1800s onward leaped forward in bounds and aided an emerging media, sporting journalism.

The inspiration of athletics and sport in art can certainly be seen in the work of the ancient Greek masters of sculpture, however this type of expression was not as prevalent in modern sporting venues until the invention of wet-collodion and dry-plate photographic processes. The twist lies in that the caller is blindfolded and must rely on hearing and other senses to be know when players are approaching. The first person to reach the caller will be the winner.

The Beginning of Sports Domes

Although playing sports in the mud, rain, sleet, rain or in intense heat and sunlight, it can be quite a spectacle for TV observers in their nice, warm, dry, comfortable living rooms, but it can be quite another story for athletes and spectators braving the elements in their cold, metal seats and whatever jackets/coats, hats, gloves, etc. they remembered to bring with them, if they brought anything at all above the usual sport attire (face paint, sports t-shirts, etc.). Time to Use Technology to Assist the Soccer Referee

April 26th, 2012 by admin No comments »

Yesterday, Thierry Henry escaped being punished for his infamous handball offence in the 2010 World Cup finals playoff against Ireland.

FIFA claims that they are ‘powerless to punish the 1998 World Cup winning striker because their rules forbade them to do so if the original misdemeanor had not been seen by the match officials.’

For an organization that can demand up to $100million dollars of broadcasting rights from any country for the coming World Cup in South Africa, it is indeed a fiasco to be deemed ‘powerless’ under such circumstances. The fact is that, this kind of controversy will not be happening if only FIFA adopted what so many other professional sports has adopted, that is make use of video replay technology to assist their soccer referees to referee their games. Only the highest rungs in FIFA and God will know what is keeping the most populous game adopting technology to improve the game. » Read more: Time to Use Technology to Assist the Soccer Referee
